Lord Sugar reveals that the new series of The Apprentice will not air before 2022.

Lord Sugar has said that The Apprentice will not return to screens until after Christmas.

The long-running business show was cancelled in 2020 due to coronavirus but had been due to return for a new series this year, with filming pencilled in for July and August.

Speaking to The Sun, however, Sugar revealed that filming will now not take place until the end of the year, meaning that the new series will not be shown until January 2022 at the earliest.

"I think you'll see it in the early part of next year, in fact that's the plan," he said.

"If things go well, and there's no outbreaks or third waves, we're planning to start recording later this year and it should be just after Christmas that they'll start it again."

The news means that two new series of The Apprentice are likely to air in 2022, with the show expected to return to its usual place in the BBC One schedules in the autumn.
